Casey Trees
Betty Brown Casey founded the organization with the mission “to restore enhance and protect the tree canopy of the nation’s capital,” after reading an article in the Washington Post discussing the decline of the District's tree canopy.
With over 50 employees, the organization tackles everything from advocacy to physically caring for and planting trees. Among its many sustainability action plans, Casey Trees also publishes over a dozen maps that outline trees the group has planted, identified or measured, including a map that specifically details locations of D.C.'s Cherry Blossoms. If interested, the organizations hosts many events to physically explore and volunteer opportunities to take care of the trees.
Additionally, the Casey Tree Farm occupies 730 acres of land along the Shenandoah River in Berryville, VA and is partially dedicated to exploring sustainable tree production.

Center for Climate and Energy Solutions
The Pew Center on Global Climate Change was founded in 1998 to provide a new voice for effective climate solutions. In 2011, the organization officially became the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions.
C2ES prioritizes being strategic, bold, credible, pragmatic in its work, including with the Business Environmental Leadership Council, Climate Innovation 2050 plan , partnering with mayors, and focusing on market-based strategies.
Nat Keohane became C2ES’s third President, succeeding Bob Perciasepe, in July 2021. Keohane is a former climate advisor to President Barack Obama and an economist with more than 20 years of energy and environmental policy experience. Read more about the group's new climate solution plans.

Institute of Hazardous Materials Management
IHMM created credentials recognizing professionals who have demonstrated a high level of knowledge, expertise, and excellence in the management of hazardous materials, dangerous goods transportation, environmental protection, health, and safety.
As a result, the organization's credentials have encouraged safe practices in protecting the environment and the public’s health, safety, and security. Over eight credential programs in hazardous materials and workplace protections have been granted to 18,000 homeland security, environmental protection, engineering, health sciences, transportation, and public safety professionals.

Potomac Appalachian Trail Club
Founded by In 1927, the organization was founded by eight men to survey and construct hundreds of miles of the Appalachian Trail. PATC continues to be a strong leader in the maintenance and preservation of the Mid-Atlantic region through volunteer efforts, education and advocacy, and trail acquisition and maintenance.
Through its work, PATC not only provides all aspects of a dynamic outdoor experience for a diverse community of trail users, but also maintains the enthusiasm and appreciation of nature from its founding members.
There are many opportunities to volunteer with the organization, attend educational courses, or learn to hike properly or in groups. The first stated purpose of PATC is "to support and encourage the ... proper recreational use of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail and other trails," and that is preserved through the hike program.

RIPE (Rural Investment to Protect our Environment)
RIPE is a coalition of farmers, ranchers, and agricultural trade association representatives advancing a national dialogue for climate policy that integrates fair and forward-looking agricultural solutions.
In order to both tackle climate change and also protect American producers, largely rural, the organization began the RIPE100 plan. RIPE100 operates on seven principles, including promoting equity and inclusion, enabling all farmers and ranchers to participate with a producer-friendly program, and allowing producers to receive a reasonable return.

Scenic America
Founded by a group concerned with the country's state of the country's roadways and the diminished effect of the Highway Beautification Act, Scenic America's mission is to preserve and enhance the visual character and scenic beauty of America.
The organization's work is guided by Seven Principles of Scenic Conservation, which outline an idealized future and the steps Scenic America is taking to bring it to fruition.
Based in Washington, DC, Scenic America currently has 50 state and local affiliates, and more than 40,000 members. The work of all chapters focuses on tree conservation, community planning and design, transportation planning, scenic easements and view protection, and many other issues.

Solar United Neighbors
Anya Schoolman founded Solar United Neighbors after researching installing solar panels on her own home and realizing it was both complicated and expensive.
As a result, Schoolman looked into making a bulk purchase, and eventually created the Mt. Pleasant Solar Cooperative, which helped 45 neighbors go solar together. Solar United Neighbors has gone through many evolutions and now works across the country. Whether through advocacy or volunteering, there is a way to get involved in every state.
